Crossfield is a growing small town of about 3,600 people on Highway 2A, just 15 minutes north of Airdrie and about 35 minutes from Calgary. It offers a close-knit community, newer neighbourhoods like Vista Crossing and Iron Landing, and prices that often come in below Calgary and Airdrie. Use the map below to explore the places that matter most when you live here.
Crossfield began in 1892 as a station on the Calgary and Edmonton Railway, named after an engineer on the survey crew. By 1904 it had a post office, general store, hotel and school, and the first grain elevator went up in 1906. It became a village in 1907 and a town in 1980. Agriculture and natural gas processing built the local economy, and today new communities are bringing young families who want small-town living close to Calgary.
Schools: Crossfield Elementary School (K–5) and W.G. Murdoch School (Grades 6–12), with a preschool on the elementary school grounds.
Health care: the nearest 24/7 urgent care is the Airdrie Community Health Centre, about 15 minutes south, and the nearest hospital is in Didsbury.
Things to do: Pete Knight Memorial Arena, Banta Park with its splash park and sport courts, the stocked Crossfield fish ponds, the library in the historic Oliver Hotel, a summer farmers' market and Pete Knight Days each June.
