History

A village named for violins

Cremona's story began in 1906, when Smith Jackson and his wife opened a store and post office a short way east of today's village. The post office turned down their first choice of name, so Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Jackson picked Cremona after reading about the famous violins made in Cremona, Italy. When the railway arrived in the 1930s, the community moved to its present spot, and Cremona became a village in 1955. The old rail line is now the Cremona Nature Trail.
